Hi, my name is Caleb. I'm in tenth grade and I'm working with Josie and Summer on our study on diseases. I like math and expressing my creativity through things like drawing, writing, and especially playing guitar. I also enjoy taking in other's creativity, whether it's through art, music or literature. Playing soccer and downhill skiing are interests of mine I use for fun and to stay healthy mentally, emotionally and physically. Lately I've been in fear of my time. I used to be able to be easy going with my time management-- there seemed to be more time in the day. But now classes and responsibilities crowed my hours that used to be free, and I acknowledge this as a forthcoming of adult life. My worries are of what I want to do with my future. I haven't found one thing that I want to dedicate my future to, perhaps aside from playing music; but that isn't a very secure future to "place my cards on". I want to explore disease and the medical field in hope of developing a passion. I don't have many medical related experiences, aside from documentaries and occasional research on things that catch my interest. Hopefully this study can inspire me to pursue a medical career.
Kind of Student:
I do well in school. It doesn't matter how I learn, as long as it interests me-- then I will learn it well. Otherwise I do what I need to in order to get good grades. I love to divulge in things that catch my interest. Sometimes I will search videos and articles involving whatever I'm thinking about at the time. Well roundness is one of my goals, not necessarily for the perception it may give schools or people of me (though that may be an extra advantage), but because my interests include a variety of subjects. Music and art, mathematics, philosophy and understanding ourselves and the universe are all dominating my mind, presenting problems and pleasures. If I could I would be a professional at something involving all of them, but that isn't realistic. Now I need to use my abilities and energy to focus on something in particular, that will also lead me to a successful life and hopefully leave behind a memorable existence.
Goals for Study:
My goals are a to obtain new found inspiration and a lot of knowledge. Life and cells are very interesting to me and the more knowledge I can get about them, the more my curiosity will be satisfied, and at the same time, grow. It will be a great success for me if I learn enough to thoroughly understand the subject and be able to learn about other things through it by relating knowledge and creating links. If this study can provide an indisputable love of the medical field, then I will have reached my ultimate goal, and will continue to expand my experience with medical science and maybe one day have a career with it.
