Welcome! My name is Josie Kennedy and I am a 10th grader at Twinfield Union School. I am interested in medicine and anatomy, and would love a career in the medical field.
Here is my proposal for this independent study-
My study: I would like to study diseases with two of my classmates, Summer and Caleb. Every since my little sister was diagnosed with atrioventricular canal defect two years ago, and I spent a large amount of time in the hospital, my interest in health care has grown. I love to learn about disease, medicine, anatomy, and everything that relates to the health field. I am really grateful to find something I am so passionate about, and it is something I would definitely like to pursue for my future. Last semester, I did an independent study in Anatomy and Physiology. This summer, I will be attending the Health Careers Institutes at Dartmouth College for a week long camp.
Disease is a perfect follow up study to Anatomy, and something that I am very interested in. I would chose to studydiseases even if I didn't get credit for it, but through renaissance I think I will learn much more than I ever could on my own. I know that Summer and Caleb share my interest, and I think that this study will be interesting, challenging, and fun.
What kind of student I am: School is very important to me, and I strive to do my best. I make homework a priority, and I don’t like to disappoint myself. I love to read, and I can retain lots of information from nonfiction books on subjects that grab my interest. I love to take notes on what I am hearing or seeing in the classroom. When I study, flashcards are my tool of choice. I am very interested in science and medicine, but I am very creative. I prefer to work alone because I feel I can get my point across better by myself. Some of my strengths would include level of dedication, my ability to listen well, and my need for perfection. My need for perfection would is also my weakness.
Goals for this study: For this study, my goals would be to learn as much as I can about the cause, symptoms, cure, and history about different diseases. My interests are in more rare, exotic diseases and I would love to learn more about them. To accomplish my goals, I will meet with our mentor, read books, watch videos, and hopefully try to find some hands on experience to study the diseases.
